I wrote this song after reading an article from NPR about the Pearl River flooding and washing out an old slave cemetery in the town of Harrisonville. The tiny church that maintained this graveyard did not have the money to repair the site. They appealed for help from federal, state and local entities but were turned away at each step. The bones from some of those resting there simply washed out of the river bank and floated down the river, unclaimed and lost to time.
